Today’s Grace Note is from the New Testament in

2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

This verse is the heartbeat of this birthday card design for my husband, and it’s the seed of grace I’m sowing into his heart. Although I am handcrafting this birthday card for my Christian husband, you can easily adapt this for any Christian man in your life. This Grace Note from 2 Corinthians 5:17, like all scripture, is universal for everyone.

Design Connection

When I saw the Sizzix Circuit board embossing folder, I immediately thought of how perfectly it illustrates our Grace Note. Just like a circuit board transforms individual components into something entirely new and functional, God doesn’t just patch up our old selves, He creates completely new pathways, new connections, new life. When we as Christians renew our minds to the word of God, we strengthen neural pathways in our brains to have the mind of Christ and respond as He would respond. Jesus referenced this in Luke 5:36-38 when He said you can’t put new wine in old wine-skins or sew a new patch on old torn garments.

It’s important to note that this transformation begins with repentance from sin and baptism, which are foundational for every believer. As Peter declared in Acts 2:38, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit is paramount to experiencing this new life; He is the one who creates these new spiritual pathways within us. My husband is already born again, but this Grace Note serves as a beautiful reminder of the complete transformation God has done in his life. It’s worthy to note that this transformation happens in the lives of every believer, new and seasoned on a daily basis.

Supply List & Tutorial

Stationery/Greeting Card Tutorial

Embossing with Grace Note Connection

We’ll start by embossing our Soft Stone card stock with the circuit board folder. As we press this through the machine, I’m reminded of 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 where Paul says we are “hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed.” God’s transformation isn’t gentle, it requires pressure, just like this embossing process. But unlike the world’s pressures that seek to crush us, God’s pressure creates beauty and purpose. The old pathways are completely restructured into something new and meaningful through His loving hands.

Ink Blending

Next, we’ll ink blend with our Morning Mist Versa Fine Clair ink across the raised circuit board pattern. I’m working the ink into all those embossed details, watching as the texture comes alive. This reminds me of John 16:13 where Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit “will guide you into all truth.” Just like how we’re working this ink into every pathway and connection on our circuit board, the Holy Spirit works the truth of God’s Word into every area of our lives on a daily basis with no corner left untouched and every pathway illuminated with His grace and truth

Heat Set

We’ll use our embossing gun to set this ink, ensuring it’s completely dry before our next step. As I apply this heat, I’m reminded that Jesus Christ was the fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; He walks with us through every refining process. Malachi 3:3 tells us that “He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver.” Jesus is our refiner’s fire, and just as this heat sets our ink permanently, God’s refining work in us isn’t rushed. He takes the time to set each transformation properly, ensuring it becomes a permanent part of who we are in Him

Silver Accent Highlights

Now for just a touch of that Brilliant Silver Mica ink on the highest points of our circuit board design. These silver highlights catch the light beautifully, connecting perfectly with our refiner’s fire theme. Just as silver is purified through intense heat, we are refined through God’s loving process. These silver accents remind us that we are meant to reflect God’s glory in our transformed lives. We are purified, polished, and shining with His light

Stamp the Verse

With Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and the Stamp Simply Words of Encouragement set (SS-017), stamp 2 Corinthians 5:17 inside the card base, creating a meaningful message for the recipient.

Final Assembly

Adhere our finished circuit board panel to our white card base. The beautiful embossed and blended front draws him in, but the real treasure, our Grace Note, waits inside. This isn’t just paper and ink; it’s a tangible reminder of God’s incredible work of making us new creations, with His very words waiting to speak to his heart when he opens it.

The Heart of Transformation: A Deeper Look

As we celebrate another year of life, birthdays become perfect opportunities to reflect on God’s transformative work. The Greek word studies behind our Grace Note add profound depth to this celebration. In Acts 3:26, we find the Greek word apostrephō (Strong’s G654), meaning “to turn away,” specifically, God’s initiative in turning us away from our old patterns of sin. This isn’t merely human effort; it’s divine intervention drawing us from darkness.

The Hebrew concept of shuv (Strong’s H7725) from Psalm 19:7 beautifully complements this understanding. When the psalmist writes about God’s law “converting the soul,” he uses this powerful word meaning “to return, restore, bring back.” It’s the same root used throughout the Old Testament for repentance, a complete turning that involves both rejection of the old and embrace of the new.

This is exactly what Paul captures in 2 Corinthians 5:17. The “new creation” isn’t just reformation, it’s complete transformation. God doesn’t simply renovate our old selves; He creates entirely new pathways of life, just like our circuit board design illustrates. Every believer has experienced this miraculous apostrephō, this divine turning away from sin, and the beautiful shuv, this restoration and return to God’s design.

A Birthday Blessing

As you create this card, you’re not just crafting with paper and ink. You’re participating in the beautiful truth that God continues His transformative work in every believer’s life. Each birthday marks another year of His faithful completion of the good work He began (Philippians 1:6). The circuit board design serves as a tangible reminder that our lives are fearfully and wonderfully rewired by the Master Designer Himself.

When the Christian man in your life opens this card and reads our Grace Note, may it remind him that he is God’s masterpiece, a new creation with purpose, with meaning, and with divine pathways that lead to abundant life.
