After long seasons without sketching, I’m genuinely proud to say I picked up my sketchbook again in 2025. I started bringing my sketchbook and alcohol markers with me to fellowship during worship at both services, and it has become a meaningful part of my week. These quiet moments of observation and mark-making have reignited something in me. I’m drawn to still life studies, nature, and prophetic art, and I’m beginning to explore the world of illustration. More than just practice, this sketchbook work with alcohol markers and calligraphy ink has been shaping how I see composition and preparing me for painting. Each sketch is a small step forward, a gentle rebuilding of skills I thought I’d left behind.

Butterfly on Branch
Mediums Used:
- Ohuhu Alcohol Markers Yr14, Y12, Gy43, Gy3, GY4, Y3, Y4, B220
- Ohuhu Acrylic Marker: Black
- Scrapbook.com Pops of Color White & Clear enamel
I began this butterfly sketch in 2024, but completed the fine details and finishing touches in 2025 after my move. I colored with alcohol markers, used the acrylic black marker to define the butterfly, and the Pops of Color to give life and dimension to the details on the Butterfly.

Tomatoes & Peas
Mediums Used:
- Ohuhu Alcohol Markers GY6, GY5, GY4, GY8, Gy7, R160, Y5, YR3, Y4
- Ohuhu Acrylic Markers: White
- Scrapbook.com Pops of Color: Clear
I colored with Ohuhu markers, used white acrylic marker to accent, and added Pops of Color for dimension on the peas and vine.

Sushi Still Life:
Mediums Used:
- Ohuhu Alcohol Markers
- Ohuhu Acrylic Markers
- Scrapbook.com Pops of Color
- Fine Line Colored Pens
I colored with Ohuhu markers, used acrylic markers, and added Pops of Color to accent and give dimension on the rice, soy sauce, chopsticks, and sushi
These three sketches represent more than just images on paper. They’re evidence of showing up, of saying yes to creativity even when it feels rusty or uncertain.
They’re proof that skills can be rekindled and that there’s always room to grow. As I move into 2026, I’m excited to continue sketching, to keep my hands and eyes trained, and to see where this practice leads. Whether it’s in worship, at home, or out in nature, I’m grateful for the freedom to create and the joy of beginning again.
Blessings to You in the name of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ,
